Sasha Luneva

I was born in 2003 in Mykolaiv, southern Ukraine. After studying at the Mykolaiv Children's Art School, I completed my degree in Art Management at the Kharkiv State Academy of Culture (2020–2024). Since August 2022, I have lived and worked in Kyiv.

My practice is built around memory. I paint fragments of recollections, sometimes my own, sometimes borrowed from other people, and through them I explore themes such as love, friendship, and the ways we hold on to one another. Many of these fragments come from childhood, a time we can only return to in pieces. A memory is never a complete picture: it arrives as a detail, a colour, a gesture, a feeling. What draws me is this incompleteness and the emotional charge that survives when everything else has faded. Through these fragments, I look at how people perceive themselves, process emotions, and carry the past with them.

Visually, I turn to the plastic language of children’s drawings, with their bold simplifications, free sense of scale, and lack of concern for correctness. This connects to my interest in naive art, primitivism, and art brut, where clarity, sincerity, and direct expression matter more than technical polish.
I primarily work with acrylics, wax crayons, and texture pastes, and I explore volume through three-dimensional works and installations made with canvas and padding.

Memories are never entirely private, I hope viewers will recognise fragments of their own experiences in my work and find in it something familiar.
